Como manager Cesc Fabregas has revealed that he attempted to bring Barcelona defender Eric García to his squad during the previous transfer window.
Speaking during a pre-match press conference ahead of Como’s Serie A fixture against Cagliari on Saturday, Fabregas praised the 24-year-old Spaniard for his quality and adaptability on the field.
The former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder confirmed his interest in García but acknowledged that the defender would remain at his current club.
“We wanted and still want Eric García at Como, he’s versatile and very good player… but he will stay at Barça,” Fabregas said, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.
García was close to leaving Barcelona in January but has since become a key figure under the leadership of head coach Hansi Flick, who reportedly holds the player in high regard.
Thanks to his flexibility across defensive roles, García has proven valuable to the team, and there is a strong possibility that Barcelona could offer him a contract extension at the end of the season.
