Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed his approval of the release of hostages Ofer Calderon and Yarden Bibas from Gaza, reiterating the government’s commitment to securing the freedom of all captives still held by Hamas.

“The Israeli government embraces the two returning hostages. Their families have been informed by the relevant authorities that they are in the hands of our forces,” Netanyahu’s office said in a statement..

The statement goes on to highlight Israel’s ongoing efforts to secure the release of all remaining hostages and missing persons.

Calderon and Bibas were freed earlier today and handed over to the Red Cross before being transferred to Israeli forces inside Gaza.

Their release comes amid ongoing diplomatic and military pressure on Hamas to free those still held captive.

The hostages, after 484 days in captivity, have now crossed into Israel, as confirmed by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

The two were escorted out of Gaza by Israeli special forces after being handed over to them by the Red Cross.

According to the IDF, Bibas and Calderon will undergo an initial medical and psychological evaluation at a facility near the border before reuniting with their families.
