An unidentified abandoned baby was found near the Government House entrance in the Fajuyi neighbourhood of Ado-Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State, by a Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN) official assigned to the Ekiti State Command.

The baby must have been abandoned by an unidentified individual who left it in front of the Government House, according to eyewitnesses who want to remain nameless.

At approximately 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, the cloth-wrapped baby was discovered.

“The loud cry of the baby caught our attention, along with that of other passersby who moved alongside me to uncover the source of the noise. Initially unsure where it was coming from, we continued searching, though we were hesitant to approach the baby,” the eyewitness said.

Patriot Mathew Okotie, the Commandant of the Peace Corps, Ekiti Command, confirmed the story to journalists by stating that one of his officers discovered the abandoned baby near Bank Road in the Fajuyi neighbourhood of Ado-Ekiti.

Okotie further revealed that the baby was taken to the police headquarters on New Iyin Road right away after the PCN official saved it and that it was then moved to the police facility in Okesa for treatment.

However, he continued, “The baby was referred because they were told to go to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) for appropriate medical treatment and additional documentation.”
