A 29-year-old Islamic cleric named Abdulrahman Bello shocked a Kwara State court on Tuesday when he admitted on camera that he killed 24-year-old Hafsoh Lawal by strangulation during intercourse.

The startling disclosure was made in front of Judge Anna Olushoda Ajayi during a court hearing on June 4. Ayodeji Joshua, a DSS officer, and Dr. Kunle Adebowale, the vice chairman of CDHR, were the two witnesses in attendance.

Abdulrahman confessed to the crime on a video clip that Ayodeji showed. Everyone in the courtroom fell silent as they realized how much anguish Hafsoh must have been going through in her last minutes.

In order for Abdulrahman to testify on the contents of the video, the judge postponed the case to June 11.

Hafsoh, a final-year student at Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin, vanished on February 10, 2025, marking the start of the terrible story. That day, she had gone to a naming ceremony. She got a call while dining at the event and departed, never to be seen again.

She was reported missing by her father, Mr Ibrahim A. Lawal at the C Division Oja Oba Police the next day.

Abdulrahman Bello was soon discovered through police investigations. Hafsoh’s last phone call was traced back to him via forensic investigation. At first, Abdulrahman, an Ilorin-based Islamic cleric from Offa Garage, denied knowing her. But when police searched his house, they were appalled to discover Hafsoh’s mutilated remains crammed into a bowl.

Abdulrahman altered his story after being presented with the proof. He now asserted that Hafsoh had passed away at his house due to an asthma attack.

Even after locating tools that indicated she had been purposefully sliced apart, investigators were not convinced. Nowadays, a lot of people think Hafsoh was killed for ceremonial reasons.

It was discovered that Hafsoh and Abdulrahman had connected on Facebook and that he had enticed her to his home on that fatal day by pretending it was a friendly visit.

Everyone, even ladies, needs to exercise greater caution. There are many hazardous persons in the world. One thing is certain: Hafsoh’s family and community demand justice, even though the investigation is still underway.
