How Mercy Chinwo forced Daddy Freeze to Leave Alex Ekubo’s Service of Songs

Veteran Nigerian On-Air Personality, Daddy Freeze, has explained the reason behind his decision to leave the service of songs organised in honour of late actor Alex Ekubo.

He made the revelation during an Instagram Live session over the weekend.

The memorial event for the deceased actor took place in Lagos last Wednesday and attracted a host of notable personalities, including gospel artistes, clerics, Nollywood celebrities, Daddy Freeze, and several other guests.

Speaking about his early exit from the gathering, Daddy Freeze alleged that one of the performances shifted the atmosphere of the programme away from what he expected at a funeral event.

In a video shared on Instagram over the weekend, he claimed that the occasion gradually took on the feel of a music concert.

While expressing concern over the choice of songs rendered, he questioned whether the gospel singer lacked slower and more reflective tracks suitable for such an occasion.

“Mercy Chinwo climbed the pulpit and turned the place to a concert. At that point I got up and left. Does Mercy Chinwo not have soft music?

“Do you understand what a funeral is? The kind of music that should be played at a funeral is soft music. They should have just played hymns for like two hours, then I would have sat down there and enjoyed it. So at the time she was performing, I just got up and left.”

Among the gospel artistes who ministered during the service of songs were Mercy Chinwo, Peterson Okopi, Moses Bliss, Ebuka Songs, and the Laud Urban Choir, among others.
