The obvious weaponization of poverty in all spheres of life is the most notable accomplishment of President Bola Tinubu’s federal government.

According to a statement signed by Dr. Effiong Efa Nyong, the National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and a previous contender for governor of Cross River State, this was the party’s scorecard.

The statement claims that Tinubu’s government has brought about a period of adversity for the Nigerian people, characterizing it as a weaponized form of poverty and a second wave of enslavement.

The former broadcast journalist claimed that in addition to the difficulty, the government has continuously raised tariffs on almost every aspect of life, such as healthcare, education, transportation, power, and communication.

The party denounced the government’s practice of imposing unthinkable levels of taxes, claiming that it has now become the standard.

The ADC noted that Tinubu’s iconic gaffe-turned-policy—the sudden announcement of the withdrawal of the petroleum subsidy—was the first step toward weaponizing hardship on the day he took office.

The opposition party characterized Tinubu’s rash pronouncement as dangerous, saying that it signaled the beginning of a new period of suffering for Nigerians, especially the country’s youth.

Nyong lamented that Nigerians, in the ten years of APC rule, have suffered “terrible hardship without any comparable development, state-sponsored intimidation, recklessness, harassment, sex scandals, judicial somersaults, and legislative compromises akin to George Orwell’s Animal Farm.”

The opposition party claims that the APC has trivialized the seriousness of the country’s situation and even forced prominent politicians to join them.

“What happened to the promises of good governance, economic growth, and national unity? Two years into the reign of the ‘messiah,’ our economy lies in shambles, the family unit is disintegrating, ritual killings are on the rise, and repentant terrorists now help massacre our sons and daughters, both on the battlefield and at home. One thing, however, the government does consistently: it lies. Propaganda, wrapped in boldness.”
