A Lagos-based NYSC member, Ushie Uguamaye, also known as Raye, who recently gained attention for criticizing the government, has issued an apology for her comments about Lagos.

In an Instagram post on Monday, she expressed regret for potentially offending Lagos residents and clarified that she never intended to disrespect them. “I want to first apologize to those born and raised in Lagos State if my words upset you. I am sorry,” she wrote.

Raye explained that her remarks were part of a 30-day rant challenge focused on highlighting Nigeria’s economic difficulties.  “But as a visitor here, I could tell there was a difference in the atmosphere and quality of air here. If the way that I put it triggered your emotions and the love for your birth state, I am sorry. I didn’t mean to talk down on your birth state,” she added.

She mentioned that her initial plan was to post 20 videos addressing societal issues, hoping to generate discussions by the 20th day. However, her first video quickly went viral, striking a chord with many Nigerians who shared similar frustrations.

Raye also voiced concern over the financial struggles faced by young Nigerians, pointing out that despite working over 45 hours a week, she and others still find it hard to afford basic recreational activities.
