The detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, or IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, is not a person that the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Olasunkanmi Fagbemi, SAN, has stated he is unaware of.

Speaking on the second day of the Ministerial Sectoral Updates, a press conference was held to commemorate President Bola Tinubu’s first year in office. Fagbemi added that the situations of Sowore and Kanu are different.

The Attorney General claimed Kanu was being detained in accordance with the law but neglected to bring up the issue of Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Igboho, who was recently set free by the Federal Government.

When asked why the Department of State Services is still holding Kanu while individuals like Omoyele Sowore and Sunday Igboho have been released, the Minister responded, “Nnamdi Kanu and Sowore’s case are not the same. If I see Sowore, I don’t know him, if I see Nnamdi Kanu, I don’t know him.

“So, Nnamdi Kanu is being held under the rule of law and the court.

“Let’s wait for the decision of the court. No one will be held outside the laws of the country.”
