Opeyemi Famakin, a celebrity food critic, has explained why he would no longer talk about his money.

After disclosing his salary in an interview, he claimed to have received a N80 million tax bill hours later.

Within 48 hours of the discovery, Famakin revealed, he received an email from the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service, or LIRS.

In his most recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, he revealed this while talking about his financial experience as a food reviewer.

Famakin described the surprise meeting and the timing, implying that the tax authorities was drawn to his public remarks.

“Two days after I mentioned my finances, LIRS sent me an email, they billed me N80 million, I paid it o. It was like play.

“However, I would never talk about my finances again. Even though I told them ‘allegedly,’ they said no, but let’s not discuss it. I’m now a proud tax payer.”

Recalling that the food critic had sparked online reactions in 2022, after claiming to be the highest paid food critic in Nigeria with N9 million earning in a bad week.
