Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido has claimed he began life in a modest one-room apartment within a shared housing setting locally referred to as “face-me-I-face-you.”

The artist shared this in a track titled CFMF from his fifth studio album, 5ive, which dropped on Friday.

According to the lyrics, his current lavish lifestyle is the result of divine intervention:

“Take a step and walk into my life…
Started all the way from face me I face you
Face me I face you

And now, I am living real large all thanks to Jesu
All thanks to Jesu oh.”

His remarks have sparked skepticism, particularly across social media platforms, given his well-known status as the son of billionaire businessman, Deji Adeleke.

This isn’t the first time Davido has shared a rags-to-riches narrative in his music. In his 2011 debut single Back When, he recounted being ignored by women during his early, less affluent days—only for them to show interest after he found fame.

That track saw limited commercial success, with many questioning the authenticity of his claims, considering his privileged upbringing.

It wasn’t until the release of Dami Duro in 2012 that Davido fully embraced his wealthy background, famously asserting his success was unstoppable as the child of a wealthy man—an approach that ultimately catapulted him into mainstream stardom.
