The manager of Manchester United, Ruben Amorim, has made it clear that he intends to retain Joshua Zirkzee, a striker, after the January transfer window.

Amorim emphasized that the Netherlands international must give it his all on the field. Zirkzee left Bologna to join Man United last year.

His substitution during the first half of Man United’s 2-0 Premier League loss to Newcastle United on Monday elicited a hostile response from irate Old Trafford fans.

After being brought on by Amorim in the final moments of Man United’s 2-2 Premier League tie with Liverpool on Sunday, the 23-year-old has since been connected to a return to Serie A.

Amorim said: “I want to keep Josh because he gives everything and he’s trying in training but we don’t know.

“The window is open and we will see what happens. We just need to focus on training and to take this for the other games. It’s just one point so let’s focus on the performance for the next games.”

Zirkzee has struggled to hit top form for Man United since joining from Bologna few months ago.

He has only scored three goals for the team in all competitions so far.
