Asari Dokubo, a former militant commander and Niger Delta activist, has denied any involvement in IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu’s detention, according to our report. Dokubo insisted that his animosity toward Kanu and himself was public and well-known, characterizing them as open enemies in a video posted on his official Facebook page.

According to our research, Dokubo publicly declared months prior to Kanu’s capture that he would “smoke him out” because of intense ideological and interpersonal conflicts. He clarified that there was no treachery by saying, “At the time Nnamdi Kanu was arrested, he was my enemy. I was looking for him to kill him, and he was also looking for me to kill me.”

Dokubo emphasized that there was no space for accusations of covert complicity because his threats were made public. His remarks highlight the long-standing hostilities between the two individuals while making it clear that he had no covert involvement in Kanu’s imprisonment.
