President Bola Tinubu has come under fire from Kenneth Okonkwo for the growing insecurity in Nigeria, claiming that things have gotten worse under his leadership. He maintained that since the President has been in power for nearly three years, it is evident that he entered the position without a solid strategy to address the nation’s security issues.

On Sunday, November 30, 2025, Sun Nigeria reported that Okonkwo cited the recent wave of attacks in multiple states, including the murder of a Brigadier General and his team in Borno and the abduction of students, worshippers, farmers, and villagers in Zamfara, Kebbi, Kwara, Sokoto, and Niger States. He claims that this level of insecurity has never been seen in Nigeria.

Additionally, he brought up a purported warning from U.S. President Donald Trump that if the deaths persisted, American troops would be sent to defend Nigerians. According to Okonkwo, President Tinubu was so alarmed by this danger that he canceled foreign travel for the first time—something he had never done even in the wake of earlier significant attacks.

Okonkwo claimed that the government’s strategy of “speaking nicely” to terrorists in order to obtain the release of kidnapped victims simply serves to incite future assaults. He denounced the choice to remove VIPs’ security information rather than bolstering the nation’s security forces.

He believes that the establishment of state police forces is the true solution. Because they are familiar with their local areas, he thinks this would boost the number of trained officers nationwide and enable them to respond more quickly.

Okonkwo contended that despite political pledges, insecurity will only become worse unless the government modifies the constitution to permit state police.

“The threat shook Tinubu to his bones and for the first time, he pretended to show empathy,” he said.
