While serving as the Majority Leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Edison Ehie, the Chief of Staff to the suspended Governor of Rivers State, has claimed that he was offered a bribe of N5 billion to support the impeachment of his principal.
During his Sunday guest appearance on Channels Television, Ehie said that he had the evidence on his phone.
Ehie continued by saying that Governor Siminalayi Fubara resolved political conflicts through conflict resolution.
“I can also open my phone to show you, in the beginning of October 2023, they approached me with a bribe of N5 billion. It is here in my phone,
“It was for impeachment. It’s here. I have it and I have printed it and distributed it, in case, in their evil imagination, they decide to attack me. I already have a son and a brother,” he said.
ZINGTIE remembers that the state Assembly complex was rocked by an explosion on the evening of October 29, 2023.
The explosion exposed Governor Fubara’s failing relationship with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who is currently Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The Speaker of the House, Martin Amaewhule, together with 26 other Wike-supporting members, suspended Ehie and three Fubara-supporting lawmakers on October 30 following the explosion, claiming they were to blame.
Citing egregious misbehavior and abuse of power, Amaewhule and the 26 MPs also went ahead and started the impeachment process against Governor Fubara.
However, once supporters of the suspended governor thwarted their attempt, the process came to a standstill.
