After her father, Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, the former governor of Oyo State, passed away on Sunday, April 6, Kemi Olunloyo publicly declared she was not taking condolences and had cut ties with the family.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, the outspoken media personality expressed her stance by disclosing personal problems and unsolved difficulties within the Olunloyo family that preceded her father’s passing.
“I’m uploading video statements on my father’s death on TikTok,” she wrote. “I am NOT part of the Olunloyo family anymore, and I told you in 2024 that I would never return to Nigeria, even if my parents died.”
Kemi discussed the tense family dynamics in a video that was shared soon after, accusing her late father of causing emotional pain and long-standing discord.
“I am not accepting anybody’s condolences because I am not condoling with anybody,” she said. “If you want to offer condolences, go to Facebook.com/omololuolunloyo.”
Kemi stressed that the public was unaware of the intricacies of their family life, even if she acknowledged that she had forgiven her father. “My father, Victor Omololu Olunloyo, was two different people,” she claimed. “He was one person to the world and another entirely at home. He destroyed our family unity emotionally and physically. He tortured us as kids.”
She also responded to the idea that she was her father’s “favourite daughter,” saying that she felt taken advantage of instead. “He used me for a lot of things. He took advantage of my positive energy,” she said, suggesting her image had been manipulated for public goodwill.
Kemi also said that a turning point in their relationship resulted from her father’s significant involvement in juju ceremonies and occultism. She said, “I called him out on his 80th birthday,” she stated. “After that, he went to Pastor E.A. Adeboye and became born-again.”
According to Kemi, her father’s marriage to Ronke Sonaike—later known as Aderonke Olunloyo—was a major cause of strife. She recalled how Ronke’s pregnancy, which she said greatly distressed her mother, caused tensions to rise among the family.
“My mother married an intellectual a man with a Ph.D. at 26, who eventually became a polygamist,” Kemi said. “Not that polygamists are bad, but the way it happened to our family was damaging.”
She claimed that her father got increasingly immersed in occult activities around that time, recalling unpleasant recollections of arguments related to Ronke’s presence in the home. Additionally, she accused Ronke of trying to poison her mother, which is said to have resulted in her hospitalization.
Kemi brought up a troubling incident in which a tiny casket was purportedly discovered beneath Ronke’s son’s bed, and Ronke then claimed that Kemi’s mother had placed it there.
During her concluding statements, Kemi disclosed that she did not communicate with her stepmother and that her older sister claimed their father got more and more unreachable in his last years. “After his stroke in 2021, nobody had access to Daddy. They couldn’t even talk to him on the phone because Ronke blocked everyone off.”
As Kemi continues to talk candidly about her family’s difficult past, her remarks have sparked debate on the internet, eliciting both sympathy and criticism.
