According to Dr. Dele Alake, Minister of Solid Minerals Development, the Federal Government would decide what to do next after the results of the forensic investigation into the explosion that happened in Ibadan on January 16.

There were five verified deaths from the explosion. The explosion caused damage to 58 buildings and approximately 77 injuries.

According to Alake, the probe will assist in identifying the explosion’s remote cause and direct the federal government’s course of action.

He made this revelation in a statement released on Sunday in Abuja by his Special Assistant on Media, Segun Tomori.

“The Federal Government is now waiting for the outcome of forensic investigations that will determine the real cause of the blast, the explosives type that triggered it, and the circumstances leading to the unfortunate incident that led to the loss of lives and property.”

The minister had declared on January 17 that he had instructed Mine Inspectorate Officers at the explosion site to work with the Oyo State Government and participate in ongoing inquiries to determine the explosion’s remote causes.

“We have ordered a detailed investigation, and our officers will work and collaborate with the government of Oyo State to know the actual cause.

“If the explosion was caused by mining explosive devices as earlier reported, the Ministry will double efforts to tighten the noose around those acquiring explosives and storing them illegally, “he said.

The statement claims that the mine police have been sent to work with other security organizations to determine what caused the explosion.

Alake gave Nigerians confidence that the government would act appropriately in this area; hence, it decided to wait for the results before making a firm decision.

He urged Nigerians to permit law enforcement and other appropriate officials to do their jobs.

The minister continued by saying that delicate circumstances like the explosion could give rise to rumors because of a lack of relevant information, which is why it is vital to wait for the investigation’s conclusion.

He added that the inquiry would aid in holding those responsible for the crime accountable and that its goal was to stop it from happening again.

An inter-ministerial committee on insecurity was established by President Bola Tinubu on January 17, which hampered the development of Nigeria’s natural resources.

The committee will discuss creating a framework to secure Nigeria’s natural resources.
