The All Progressives Congress (APC) chapter in Osun State has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to step in and stop the continuous conflicts between the Ifon-Osun and Ilobu communities.

Since the situation began late Thursday night, millions of Naira worth of property and lives have been lost, according to ZINGTIE.

The party criticized Governor Ademola Adeleke’s handling of the crisis in a statement issued on Friday and signed by its Director of Media and Information Kola Olabisi. The statement said that Adeleke’s administration lacked the political will to put an end to the conflict, which has happened eight times in the past 18 months.

“The deep-seated incapability of the Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke to statecraft is manifesting again with the resurgence of the communal crisis,” he said.

At least 30 people have been killed in the skirmishes, according to the APC, and many homes, businesses, and cars have been set on fire.

According to the party, Olori Bola, the wife of the Olobu of Ilobu, lost her store to the violence, and one of the victims was a former councilor.

“Video footage circulating online shows residents fleeing both towns in large numbers, fearing further attacks. The lingering hostility between the two communities has thrown the entire state into pandemonium,” the statement added.

According to the APC, the state government finds it challenging to reestablish order since important members of Governor Adeleke’s administration have connections to illegal activity.

terrorism was among the people the party mentioned for allegedly engaging in violent actions.

“How would criminals on rampage fear the government when the chief executive of the state has over the period proven he is a lover and an enabler of crime?” The statement queried.

The party also charged Adeleke with neglecting to confront violence in other Osun villages where similar unrest has occurred, such as Iddo-Osun, Egbedi, and Esa-Oke.

“We call on the Federal Government and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to, as a matter of urgency, come to the aid of the people of the feuding communities,” he added.

Additionally, the Osun State community of Ilobu has made a frantic appeal to President Bola Tinubu, Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, and Director of the Department of State Security Adeola Ajayi for prompt action in what they say is an ongoing attack by the neighboring communities of Ifon-Osun and Erin-Osun.

A statement signed by Pastor Olufemi Salako, National President of the Ilobu Development Union, IDU, and obtained by ZINGTIE contained their request.

In the meantime, the Ifon and Ilobu communities in Osun State were once again subject to a dark to dawn curfew on Friday following an emergency meeting with security forces and other stakeholders.

The Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, made the announcement in a statement on Friday. The curfew would be in effect from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. every day until both warring communities were at peace.

As you may remember, Governor Adeleke imposed a curfew a few weeks ago after the two areas began experiencing unrelenting intercommunal violence.
