A prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, has claimed that individuals from the Igbo ethnic group are responsible for the worsening security crisis in the South-East.

In a post shared on his verified Facebook page on Thursday, Igbokwe dismissed the widespread accusations against Fulani herders, who have often been blamed for the violence and abductions occurring in the region.

He wrote, “The blatant and pathological lies about the killings and destruction in the South East can no longer stand.

“It is Igbo killing Igbo, it is Igbo destroying Igboland and putting the blame on Hausa/Fulani Herdsmen. This is not our culture. This is sad.”

Recent weeks have seen an upsurge in violent incidents across the South-East, with several fatalities reported in states such as Imo and Anambra.

Among the victims is a well-known businessman from Anambra, Ifesinachi Onyekere, popularly referred to as “Fish Magnet,” who was discovered dead on Wednesday, days after being abducted from his home in the Ezinifite area of Okpuno, located in Awka South Local Government Area.

In response to the killing, outspoken social media personality Martins Otse, known online as VeryDarkMan, has announced plans to travel to Anambra to hold a candlelight vigil in memory of the deceased fish farmer.
