Ola Olukoyede, the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, has promised to see to it that Yahaya Bello, the former governor of Kogi State, gets taken into custody.
The head of the EFCC claimed that, out of respect, he called Bello directly and urged him to come before the commission to discuss the charges against him.
Regretfully, the chairman of the EFCC stated, the former governor turned down the invitation.
Since then, Bello has been listed as wanted by the EFCC. He continues to live in hiding in the hopes that the case against him will be dropped quickly.
“If I do not personally oversee the completion of the investigation regarding Yahaya Bello, I will tender my resignation as the chairman of the EFCC,” he told reporters on Wednesday.
Olukoyede emphasised that Nigerians must support the EFCC in order for it to succeed, stressing that the agency’s failure would reflect poorly on Nigeria.
The chairman of the EFCC cited the favourable effects of the current efforts on the foreign market and the value of the Naira.
