Illinois State University Announces Emergency Closure Due to Inclement Weather
Illinois State University will close today, Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at 4:30 p.m. due to variabilities in the weather forecast, which is calling for temperatures at or near freezing, potentially leading to icy conditions.
As a result, all classes (in-person, hybrid, and online) scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. or after are cancelled, including evening classes, and will not be delivered remotely. “All assignments and exams in these classes should be rescheduled for a future date,” the university announced.
While academic activities are suspended, essential services will continue to operate. Residence halls and the University Police Department will remain open, ensuring the safety and well-being of students and staff.
Dining services will also be affected, with Watterson Dining Commons and Marketplace at Linkins closing at 8 p.m. All other university buildings will be closed, and only weather-essential personnel are required to report to work.
The university has assured that University Grounds staff have been treating sidewalks, drives, steps, parking lots, and other surfaces with salt and brine throughout the day. However, some spots may still be slick during the freezing rain.
Hourly employees whose regular shifts begin before 7 a.m. on Thursday, February 6, and who are not designated as essential personnel, should report to work at 7 a.m. when the university opens. Dining centres will open at regular times, but retail dining locations may have delayed openings.
The university plans to resume normal operations on Thursday, February 6, at 7 a.m.
