Samuel Anyanwu, the embattled national secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has disregarded the party’s National Working Committee’s (NWC) mandate over the current dispute for his post.

Despite the party’s NWC’s stance, Anyanwu returned to the PDP National Secretariat on Thursday and carried out his duties from his office.

Anyanwu during a video call with Lere Olayinka, the spokesperson for FCT Minister Nyesom Wike stated, , “As you can see, I’m in my office. These are my people and we are working.”

During the call, Anyanwu showed Olayinka around and said: “You can see them jumping over the fence, that was how I stayed in my office to catch them through the CCTV.”

On Thursday, Olayinka shared the footage on his Whatsapp status.

Anyanwu’s departure to run for governor of Imo State sparked the fight for the post of PDP National Secretary.

After he left, Sunday Ude-Okoye, the party’s National Youth Leader, was approved by the PDP’s South-East caucus to succeed him.

Ude-Okoye fiercely opposed Anyanwu’s attempt to retake the position of PDP National Secretary after he lost the election.

An Appeal Court decided in favor of Ude-Okoye as the National Secretary of the PDP on December 20, 2024.

During the party’s Board of Trustees, or BoT, meeting at the PDP National Secretariat on January 28, a brawl broke out between Anyanwu’s supporters and Ude-Okoye.

Ude-Okoye was confirmed as the legitimate National Secretary by the PDP Governors Forum, and the party’s NWC followed suit.

Kamaldeen Ajibade, the party’s national legal adviser, also supported Ude-Okoye for the role.

Ude-Okoye was confirmed as the party’s National Secretary by the NWC on Thursday.

Debo Ologunagba, the party’s national publicity secretary, revealed the situation in a statement.

The statement reads: “After due consideration of the Memo and the attachments, the NWC overwhelmingly recognizes, acknowledges and confirms Rt. Hon. S.K.E Udeh Okoye as the substantive National Secretary of the PDP in full compliance with and obedience to the Judgement of the Court of Appeal, recognizing that there is no subsisting or superseding Judgment or Order from any Court of superior authority or hierarchy.”
