After eating a poisonous fish in Kashimbila, Takum Local Government Area, Taraba State, four persons have died and two more are undergoing treatment.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama reported the event on Tuesday, stating that the victims were Fulani herdsmen who had gone fishing.
Makama reported intelligence sources that stated that on February 22, at approximately 10:00 p.m., the six herders—Adamu Mato, Saidu Payo, Sule Abubakar, Ibrahim Haruna, Yusuf Musa, and Abdul Juli—went fishing in a nearby river.
They unintentionally ingested a poisonous species of fish after catching and cooking it, which caused them to become seriously ill.
By February 23, they were taken to Kashimbila’s Primary Health Centre, where the doctor in charge pronounced four of them dead: Juli, Abubakar, Mato, and Payo.
Ibrahim Haruna and Yusuf Musa, the two survivors, are presently undergoing treatment at the same facility.
Chidawa Village resident Haruna Isiaka reported the incident to the police.
While the cause of the poisoning is being investigated, security personnel have subsequently placed the bodies at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.
