Residents of Bauchi State have been cautioned by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to register numerous or underage voters, collect PVCs by proxy, or interfere with election officials while they are on duty.

INEC cautioned that the Electoral Act 2022 (as amended) imposes severe penalties for such offenses.

During a press briefing on Friday regarding the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) campaign, Umar Ibrahim, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Bauchi, issued the warning.

“The Commission will not tolerate multiple registration, underage registration, or proxy collection of PVCs. These are serious electoral offences, and anyone found guilty will face the full weight of the law,” Ibrahim said.

In order to ensure that only eligible voters are listed in the final register, he said, the Continuous Voter Registration campaign is a component of the run-up to the general elections in 2027.

To allow for corrections, objections, and claims, he said, the Preliminary Register of Voters would be released to the public every three months.

All eligible voters were encouraged by the REC to take advantage of the exercise in order to register, update their personal data, transfer their registration, or replace any PVCs that were lost or damaged.

“I call on all eligible Nigerians in Bauchi State to make use of this opportunity to register, update your details, and collect your PVCs,” he appealed.
