President Bola Tinubu has stated that the federal government intends to use cutting-edge technology in its effort to retake areas, especially forests, from terrorists and criminals around the nation.

At a state banquet held in his honor at Government House in Katsina on Friday night, he stated that a coordinated response by all levels of government to the threat posed by the gunmen is developing.

He said that in order to eliminate threats in the nation’s rural and forest regions, improved security and surveillance technology will be used.

He emphasized that the ongoing instability in some areas of the nation, especially the Northwest, was a national issue that needed to be addressed with unity by the federal, state, and local governments.

He was quoted by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, as adding that technical solutions would be crucial to breaking up criminal strongholds and regaining investor confidence.

One of Nigeria’s most urgent issues, he said, is insecurity, which must be addressed completely if the country is to see economic expansion and attract foreign investment.

The President clarified that terrorism and banditry have engendered a climate of fear that discourages both domestic and foreign businesses.

Earlier on Friday, he had spoken to military personnel and troops involved in the war against terrorism in Katsina, promising them the entire support of the government in completing the task.

One of the states most impacted by rural insecurity is Katsina, where thousands of people have been evicted from their homes and farms and numerous fatalities have been reported.

He specifically noted remarks made about the security situation by Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari, a former governor of the state, and stated: “Yes, I agree that security is a challenge for the country.

“I addressed the men and women of the armed forces earlier today and assured them that we will do everything to fight terrorism and banditry.

“We will invest more in technology and take over the forests. Security is a national issue, not just at the local or regional levels. If we genuinely need investment in Nigeria, we must address security.

“Investment is cowardly, and it will not go where there is banditry and terrorism. We will solve the problem together with the states and local councils,” he said.

According to President Tinubu, positive indications of Nigeria’s economic recovery were starting to appear.

He attributed this development to his administration’s audacious policy choices.

The President stated that in order to boost employment and the economy, the federal government will think about modernizing the Katsina airport.

Additionally, he promised to provide assistance to terrorist victims so they may resume their lives.

The President expressed gratitude to Aminu Bello Masari for helping him secure the North West’s support and become the APC’s presidential candidate.

Additionally, he expressed gratitude to the governors who accepted Katsina State Governor Radda’s invitation to his daughter’s wedding and the inauguration of projects.

The states of Kaduna, Jigawa, Borno, Benue, Yobe, Sokoto, and Kwara were represented among the governors.

President Tinubu praised President Muhammadu Buhari as a man of integrity who made a substantial contribution to Nigeria’s progress and recognized the leadership roles played by Katsina indigenous people in the nation.

“I wish him well,” he said.

Governor Dikko Radda stated in his speech that the state has a security organization that collects and provides intelligence.

According to him, the projected airport extension, which would cost N54 billion and include a fire truck, passenger terminal, and cargo terminal, would directly create 2,700 jobs.

Masari, the former governor, congratulated the president for adding two state ministers to the Federal Executive Council.

Masari also expressed gratitude to the President for selecting Katsina natives to serve as special advisers, board chairs, and heads of regulatory organizations like the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

He explained why he backed the president’s plan to run in the 2023 elections:

“You have the political will and courage to face the challenges of this country.

“You know the problem with humans: There will be resistance when new changes and a new social order are coming. And if you are not strong enough and determined, you will succumb, and the problem continues.

“But leadership is not about when it is all well. The hard way is the best. You know leaders during hard times.

“I know and believe you can do it. You have the courage.”

According to Masari, the North West’s instability needs to be addressed comprehensively and from the ground up.
