Despite its current leadership crisis, Adetokunbo Pearse, a Lagos State chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, asserts thatthe party is not dysfunctional.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday, Pearse, a member of the Atiku Abubakar 2023 Presidential Campaign Committee, PCC, stated as much.
The former ruling party would overcome its obstacles and rise before the general elections in 2027, according to Pearse, the State Coordinator of Support Groups for the Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign in 2023.
“There are some issues in the PDP political family, but the same can be said of every political party here in Nigeria and indeed everywhere else in the world.
“I have just returned from a three-day visit to Abuja, and I can confirm that the National Head Office of the PDP and all offices of the party are functioning as normal.
“The attempt to portray the PDP as a dysfunctional organisation is the handiwork of APC detractors and propagandists.
“They are afraid that the current situation in the country will surely give Nigerians an option to vote in a PDP government in 2027,” he said.
He asserted that none of the party’s party’s structure had ever made an effort to remove Umar Damagun from his position as the party’s acting national chairman.
He went on to say that Damagun will resign if the party’s National Executive Committee, Governors Forum, and Board of Trustees all agree that he should, provided the courts do not object.
Speaking about the dispute surrounding the PDP National Secretary post, Pearse claimed that Samuel Anyanwu had been removed from his position as PDP National Secretary in accordance with the constitution, a decision that had been upheld by the courts.
According to ZINGTIE, the erstwhile ruling party has struggled with leadership issues since the general elections in 2015.
