Nigeria’s vast multibillion-naira agrofood and packaging industry is on the verge of significant growth as investors from around the world explore opportunities and deals within the subsector.

Freyja Detjen, Senior Project Manager at Fairtrade Messe, made this disclosure at a press conference ahead of the 10th edition of Agrofood & Plastprintpack Nigeria, scheduled for March 25-27, 2025, at the Landmark Centre in Lagos.

According to Detjen, the three-day event will feature over 20 sessions and more than 70 speakers who will discuss topics focused on agro-processing, technology, and packaging. “This event addresses agro-processing, technology, and the packaging industry, bringing together key players to discuss, innovate, and develop solutions for Nigeria,” Detjen stated. “Many believe they must go abroad for international solutions, but Agrofood Nigeria aims to connect experts and resources within the country for the benefit of the nation.”

Paul Maerz, Managing Director at Fairtrade Messe, addressed the audience virtually, assuring that the interface and discussion sessions at the event would facilitate trade and forge partnerships for participants. “Even from a distance, I’m very excited to be part of this important gathering of the Agrofood & Plastprintpack industry. I think it’s a fantastic opportunity to connect, to exchange ideas, to explore new possibilities within our industry,” Maerz said.

The 2025 edition, headlined by Germany, marks a decade of collaboration and innovation within these vital industries. According to the organisers, Fairtrade Messe, this milestone event will attract no fewer than 100 investors and exhibitors from 15 countries, showcasing customised products and solutions tailored for the Nigerian market.

Odion Aleobua, Chief Executive Officer of Modion Communications and Nigerian Partner, revealed that investors and exhibitors from Germany, Italy, China, the Netherlands, South Africa, and other nations will participate in the event. Aleobua justified the need for the conference, saying it would have a positive impact on the economy and contribute to the growth of the agrofood, plastics, printing, and packaging sectors.

“This demonstrates confidence in our economy. When these participants find the right partners, we will see investment opportunities materialise and innovations flourish. Connecting global best practices is invaluable,” Aleobua said. “The world is interconnected; we cannot thrive without adopting initiatives and innovations from abroad. This platform facilitates global businesses to engage with Nigerian enterprises, fostering commerce and growth.”

Highlights of the 2025 event will include a 10-year jubilee celebration, participation from global exhibitors, official national pavilions from China, Germany, Poland, the Netherlands, and South Africa, as well as a comprehensive three-day conference.

Nigeria’s imports of printing and paper processing technology have surged by 17% annually, reaching €92 million in 2022, securing Nigeria’s position as the second-largest investor in sub-Saharan Africa.

Ameh Alex Omah, Founder and Chairman of the Global Ambassador for World Packaging Organisation, said participants have a lot to benefit from the forthcoming event, as it would offer fresh vistas for players operating within the agrofood and packaging subsector.

Following a successful collaboration since the 2021 event, Fairtrade and OTACCWA will co-host the 7th West African Cold Chain Summit & Exhibition alongside Agrofood & Plastprintpack Nigeria 2025.
