The Kremlin announced on Wednesday that future talks between Russia and the United States will include discussions on Iran’s nuclear program.
Reports indicate that Russia has agreed to help the Trump administration in communicating with Iran on various issues, including Tehran’s nuclear ambitions and its support for regional anti-US proxies.
While the Kremlin has not confirmed this directly, it has made it clear that Iran will be a key topic of discussion in upcoming US-Russia talks.
“So far there is only an understanding that the Russian position really is that this problem of Iran’s nuclear dossier should be solved exclusively by peaceful political and diplomatic means.
“We believe that there is potential for this, because Iran is our ally, our partner, and a country with which we are developing comprehensive, mutually beneficial and mutually respectful relations, and Russia is ready to do everything possible for this. The United States is aware of this,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
This comes after President Trump reinstated his maximum pressure campaign on Iran last month, which includes efforts to reduce Iran’s oil exports to zero in an attempt to prevent Tehran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.
