Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, has been referred to as the “obstacle to peace” between Israel and Iran by former US Speaker Nancy Pelosy.
Pelosi emphasised that Netanyahu “should resign” and denounced his strategy for handling the conflict in Gaza.
During a tour to Ireland, the former US Speaker stated in an interview with Irish broadcaster RTE that the attacks on southern Israel by Hamas on October 7, which resulted in over 1,200 deaths and 253 kidnappings, were instances of “cruel brutality.”
She said: “We recognize Israel’s right to protect itself. We reject the policy of Netanyahu—terrible. What could be worse than what he has done in response?”
When asked if Netanyahu was a “block to peace” in the area, Pelosi replied, “He has been for years.”
“I don’t know whether he is afraid of peace, incapable of peace or just doesn’t want peace, but he has been an obstacle to the two-state solution, so he’s been the problem,” she said.
