On Saturday, an Israeli airstrike on Gaza’s northern Beit Lahiya town killed at least nine Palestinians, including three local journalists, and left others wounded. Several people were critically injured when the strike hit a car, which had people both inside and outside.

The individuals in the car were reportedly part of a mission for the Al-Khair Foundation charity, accompanied by journalists and photographers at the time of the strike.

The Israeli military stated that the airstrike targeted two individuals it identified as terrorists operating a drone, which was seen as a threat to Israeli forces in Beit Lahiya.

The military later reported hitting several other suspects who had collected the drone equipment and entered a vehicle. However, the Israeli military did not provide details on how they determined the individuals were terrorists or explain the specific threat posed by the drone.

The incident highlights the vulnerability of the January 19 ceasefire agreement, which had halted large-scale fighting in Gaza. Despite the truce, Palestinian health officials have reported that dozens of people have been killed by Israeli fire.

“The team was made of civilians and worked in an area near a shelter on a mission sponsored by a charity. They were not in a prohibited area and didn’t pose any danger of any kind to the occupation army,” Marouf said in a statement.
