On Saturday, the Israeli military reported that it had intercepted a missile launched from Yemen, amid ongoing U.S. airstrikes targeting the Iran-aligned Houthi faction.
The military confirmed that warning sirens were triggered in several regions of Israel following the launch.
In March, large-scale air raids were ordered by U.S. President Donald Trump, aimed at degrading the Houthis’ operational capacity and deterring further assaults on vessels navigating the Red Sea.
These assaults marked the most extensive American military action in the Middle East since Trump assumed office in January.
The Houthis have claimed that their strikes against Israel and maritime traffic in the Red Sea are acts of solidarity with the Palestinian people, in response to the ongoing conflict in Gaza involving Hamas and Israeli forces.
The group has vowed to widen its scope of attacks on Israeli targets, citing retaliation for a renewed military campaign in Gaza that began two months ago.
Additionally, the Houthis have reiterated their intention to continue targeting international shipping, following what has been described as the largest and most lethal U.S. military campaign in Yemen since Trump returned to the presidency.
