On Thursday night, the Israeli Security Cabinet voted to dismiss Ronen Bar, the Director of the Israeli Security Agency (Shin Bet), following significant disagreements and a breakdown in trust between Bar and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in recent months.

Netanyahu explained that the tensions started on October 7.

During the meeting, the Security Cabinet agreed that Bar would be removed within 30 days or once a new ISA Director is appointed.

Bar’s removal is expected to lead to widespread protests across Israel.

Over the past three days, demonstrators opposing Bar’s dismissal have joined forces with others protesting the decision to resume military actions in Gaza. The resumption of hostilities ended a two-month ceasefire, and 59 Israeli hostages remain in the Palestinian territory.
