Ahead of the 2027 presidential election, Datti Baba-Ahmed, the previous Labour Party (LP) vice presidential candidate, has denied rumors that he and Peter Obi are at odds, stating that their relationship is still solid.
Despite persistent rumors of political rifts between him and Obi, Datti made it apparent in a popular video clip on X that they are united.
“You are saying if there is a crack, there is no crack. And by the grace of God Almighty, there will never be a crack.
“It is easier to break the head of APC than to break the crack that exists between us,” he said.
Datti also discussed his commitment to the Labour Party, stating that he is still loyal to the group that offered him a chance in 2023.
“I stated clearly that as a loyal member to a party that has achieved what no party in Nigeria’s political history has achieved… this party is one not to be abandoned,” he said.
Datti disassociated himself from the current ADC coalition negotiations on the subject of political coalitions.
Although he and Obi had participated in some of the meetings, he explained, this does not imply that they defected from the Labour Party.
“A coalition is not a political party. To the best of my knowledge, Obi is still a member of Labour Party, and I am too,” he said.
He made it clear in the video that his goal is to bring the Labour Party together and that unity is more important to him than ambition.
“I wish to reconcile all parties. This is what a loyal and unambitious member does and that’s what I’m doing,” he added.
His comments, which indicated a repaired connection between him and LP National Chairman Julius Abure, followed their meeting.
Additionally, Abure affirmed that Datti had announced his plan to run for president under the party in 2027.
