It’s not anti-North – Sanwo-Olu makes clarification on Tinubu’s Tax Reform Bills

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos State, has denied rumours that President Bola Tinubu’s planned tax reform bills are biassed against the Northern region.

Sanwo-Olu stated that after reading the bills and learning more about them, he thinks they represent a national strategy.

Like everything new, the governor added, there might be some problems with the bill, but ultimately, it is meant to be equitable for all Nigerians.

According to ZINGTIE, The submission was made by Sanwo-Olu in a recent TVC interview.

The governor of Lagos State also underlined the importance of making sure that the people benefit from the measures once they are put into effect.

“I believe, quite frankly, that it is a national plan. It will be fair to everybody. Initially, everything that is new, there will be some issues around it, and we are not sure that it will be fair to us.

“But I believe those are the intentions. Let us see what has happened in 2024. Today, foreign currency is wrapping up. I heard that people are buying a dollar at less than N1,500. Things are beginning to double up. We are beginning to see some bit of stability

“So, like I keep saying, that benefit, we should be able to push it down to our citizens. We should be able to push it down to the social economic benefit of our people. And it is not a time where anybody can give up now. We have sort of like belt up enough, so that the benefit would be accruing. We all need to be strategically positioned, so that we can take it” he said.
