Tottenham Hotspur captain Heung-min Son has announced he will be leaving the club during this summer’s transfer window after a decade-long stay.
Son made the revelation at a press conference held ahead of Tottenham’s pre-season friendly against Newcastle United at the Seoul World Cup Stadium on Sunday.
The South Korean star also expressed gratitude to Tottenham supporters for their unwavering support throughout his time at the club, speaking alongside manager Thomas Frank.
“I leave this club as a man. Thanks to all the Spurs fans who’ve given me so much love,” the 33-year-old said.
“The main reason is I’ve achieved everything I can at Tottenham and I need a new environment for a fresh challenge.”
Son joined Tottenham in 2015 from Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen.
Earlier this year in May, he lifted the UEFA Europa League trophy following a 1-0 win over Manchester United in the final.
Major League Soccer’s Los Angeles FC has been strongly linked with a potential move for Son this summer.
