The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) has shed light on the admission status of Jamiu Basola Owodunni, a Civil Engineering graduate whose admission was recently flagged as fake by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). According to FUTA’s Director of Corporate Communication, Mr. Adegbenro Adebanjo, Basola was admitted into the Department of Civil Engineering in the 2017/2018 academic session after passing the 2017 UTME and successfully completed the five-year course.

However, issues arose when Basola tried to fill out the form to be mobilized for the national youth service, and JAMB declared that it never approved his admission. Adebanjo stated that the university presented all documents pertaining to Basola’s admission to the police for scrutiny, and the police report was forwarded to JAMB Headquarters for consideration.
“FUTA has discharged its responsibility on the matter on behalf of Jamiu Basola and waits on JAMB, which flagged his status in the first place, to resolve the matter based on the documents and information supplied to them by FUTA,” Adebanjo said.

Basola had expressed his frustration on Facebook, saying that JAMB declared his admission fake seven years after he commenced his studies. JAMB, however, insisted that it never approved Basola’s admission and that his records were not found in its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS).
FUTA has now awaited JAMB’s response on the matter, having supplied all necessary details pertaining to Basola’s admission status. The university has taken steps to resolve the issue, and it remains to be seen how JAMB will respond to the documents and information provided by FUTA
