United States Vice President, JD Vance has said that the US is not there yet regarding a deal with Iran.
Vance stated this on Thursday while speaking with journalists, noting that both sides were getting closer and that the US is in a position where it could significantly push back Tehran’s nuclear programme.
Recall that US media reports earlier claimed that American and Iranian negotiators reached an agreement on Tuesday, although it still required Donald Trump’s approval.
Vance’s remarks represent the first reaction from a senior US official regarding the reports.
When asked about the issue during a White House press briefing earlier on Thursday, the US Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent,
said negotiators had continued discussions back and forth.
Bessent further stated that Donald Trump had clearly outlined several red lines, including that Iran must surrender its highly enriched uranium and must not possess a nuclear weapon.
“The Strait of Hormuz must be free and open as it has been before. Everything depends on what the president wants to do,” Bessent added.
