The Jewish Federation of Cleveland has secured a monumental $90 million grant from the Jack, Joseph, and Morton Mandel Supporting Foundation. This generous donation will serve as matching funds for the Jewish Day School Transformation initiative, a sweeping $180 million project aimed at revolutionizing Jewish education in Cleveland.

Key Components of the Initiative

– *$100 million endowment fund*: Supporting five Cleveland Jewish day schools, including Fuchs Mizrachi School, Gross Schechter Day School, Hebrew Academy of Cleveland, Joseph & Florence Mandel Jewish Day School, and Yeshiva Derech Hatorah.

– *$80 million capital improvements fund*: Addressing essential upgrades and renovations to create state-of-the-art learning environments.

Initiative chair Jeffrey J. Wild praised the Mandel Foundation’s grant, saying, “Through this grant, the Mandel Foundation has made it clear that the time for our community to step up for its future leaders is now.” Wild expressed confidence in the initiative’s success, citing significant gifts from donors inspired by the Mandel grant.

Mandel Foundation chair Stephen H. Hoffman emphasized the initiative’s long-term impact, stating, “This Day School Transformation initiative will ensure Jewish Cleveland students get the very best dual curriculum of Judaic and general studies possible for generations to come.” Hoffman highlighted the creation of the first-ever day school endowment fund in Cleveland, which will enable the recruitment and retention of top teachers and provide expanded educational opportunities.

Fundraising for the initiative will continue through December 2026, with the Jewish Federation of Cleveland aiming to match the Mandel Foundation’s grant and bring the total funding to $180 million.
