Jigawa: NNPP, APC conduct primaries for by-election in Garki/Babura

The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) have held primary elections for the upcoming by-election for the House of Representatives seat for the Garki/Babura Federal Constituency in Jigawa State.

The by-election comes because Isa Dogon Yaro, the constituency’s representative, passed away on May 9, 2024.

The by-election was set for August 16, 2025, by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

On Saturday, the APC primary poll was held at the Duplex in Babura, while the NNPP primary was held in the party’s local government secretariat in Babura.

Salisu Sabo received 114 votes overall, making him the victor of the NNPP primary election, according to Chief Returning Officer Muhammad Gako, who announced the results after all delegates had finished casting their ballots.

Sabo, in his acceptance speech, said, “I promised to work with all party members and the good people of Garki/Babura constituency to enhance secondary education and encourage voters to prioritise merit and the quality of candidates who will effectively address their needs.”

Ismaila Gadaka, the chairman of the APC Primary poll Committee, proclaimed the poll to be free, fair, and peaceful.

With 110 votes, Rabiu Garki became the party’s flagbearer, he declared.

Garki praised Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi, party leaders, and members for believing in him. If elected, he promised to prioritize job creation and youth employment to raise the standard of living for his residents.
