Over the weekend in Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State, an orphan named Nnamdi Nwite Ugo was allegedly killed by a lawyer named Sunday Ununu.

According to reports, Ugo was slain in Abakaliki Local Government Area during the celebration of the Izzi Unuphu Power of Attorney community election.

The group Izzi Unuphu Power of Attorney is in charge of overseeing land transactions in the area.

The group has been reclaiming land that it believes was either unlawfully purchased or sold by locals to non-natives.

ZINGTIE found out about the election that took place to choose new group leaders. Ununu, the group’s lawyer, had occasionally fired gunfire in celebration of one of his adherents winning the election.

“Unfortunately, a bullet hit Ugo on the nose and it pierced through his mouth and he died.

“The deceased lost his parents and he had no close relatives. Nobody is talking about the matter but the family of the lawyer and the deceased’s distant relatives are negotiating with a view to cover the incident.

“I even heard that a particular amount has been promised to the deceased’s distant relatives for his burial and to cover the matter,” a resident of the area who did not want his name in print had told Daily Sun.

Social media users have been talking about the Ununu celebration and shooting video, in which the lawyer can be seen clearly dodging bullets while wearing a yellow T-shirt.

DSP Joshua Ukandu, the Ebonyi State Police Command’s public relations officer, verified Ununu’s arrest to ZINGTIE when he was approached about the incident.

He said: “I don’t know the details of that matter but I am aware of what you are saying. He is even in our custody. It’s just that the circumstance is what I don’t know.”
