The first reading of a measure to establish a new state in the Southeast geopolitical zone has been approved by the House of Representatives.
It will be called “Orlu State” and have Orlu as its capital if established.

The proposed legislation states that Orlu, Orsu, Oru West, Oru East, Ideato North, Ideato South, Njaba, Nkwerre, Nwangele, and Isu are Local Government Areas that will be included in the proposed state. Other names for them are Oguta, Ohaji Egbema, Onuimo, Uli, Ozubulu, Akokwa, Arondizuogu, Umuchu, Umunze, and Umuaku.
