Kaduna Governor makes fresh move that could change life for traditional rulers

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has approved a significant increase in the salaries and allowances of Emirs, Chiefs, District Heads and Village Heads across the state.

The approval was announced in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki.

According to the statement, the salary review affects traditional rulers across Kaduna State’s three senatorial districts.

The Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Alhaji Sadiq Mamman Lagos, explained that the decision was aimed at improving the welfare of traditional rulers and enhancing their ability to carry out their responsibilities at the grassroots.

Maiyaki also disclosed that Governor Uba Sani had approved monthly security allowances for all 35 Emirates and Chiefdoms in Kaduna State.

The new security allowance is expected to take effect from September 1, 2026.

According to the state government, the initiative is designed to improve grassroots intelligence gathering and strengthen ongoing efforts by security agencies to combat crime and other security challenges.

Mamman Lagos said the latest measures reflect the Kaduna State Government’s recognition of traditional institutions as key partners in grassroots administration, peace-building, conflict resolution and security management.

“Our traditional rulers are the custodians of our communities and a critical link between government and the people. Their closeness to the grassroots places them in a strategic position to detect emerging threats, facilitate timely intelligence and resolve disputes before they escalate.

“With this enhanced support comes greater responsibility. We expect our royal fathers to intensify their efforts in fostering peaceful coexistence, strengthening mutual trust and promoting harmony among the diverse ethnic and religious groups within their respective emirates and chiefdoms,” he added.

The Commissioner for Information and Culture said the approvals further demonstrate Governor Uba Sani’s commitment to strengthening traditional institutions and equipping them to contribute more effectively to peace, security and development across the state.

Maiyaki noted that traditional rulers continue to serve as an important connection between the government, security agencies and local communities, particularly in the areas of intelligence gathering, community engagement and peaceful coexistence.

He therefore called on residents to continue supporting traditional institutions and security agencies by providing credible and timely information that could help protect lives and property.

The commissioner added that stronger cooperation among communities, traditional rulers and security agencies remained essential to building a safer and more prosperous Kaduna State.
