Sadiq Gentle, who worked at the Kano State Ministry of History and Culture as a Senior Special Reporter to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, passed away as a result of wounds he received in a violent assault by alleged criminals.
Several days after being viciously attacked in his home by thugs who severely wounded him with machetes, he died this morning at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital.
His coworkers, acquaintances, and political allies have expressed deep sadness over the attack, which happened on Sunday night, and there are growing calls for justice and a comprehensive inquiry into the occurrence.
In an emotional interview, Mujtaba Muhammad Auwal, a close friend of the deceased, confirmed the death to ZINGTIE.
“It’s true, he has passed away. His condition worsened yesterday, and another surgery was scheduled for today — but Allah did not will it,” Mujtaba said tearfully.
He added, “Some thugs broke into his house on Sunday night. They stabbed him and stole his phones,” he recounted amid sobs.
According to earlier accounts on Monday, Sadiq was attacked with a knife by suspected phone snatchers who broke into his home at night and took his possessions.
Even though officials are working to reduce the threat, deadly incidents during phone snatching have become more frequent in Kano. In Dorayi, Gwale Local Government Area, a Bayero University student was also murdered by phone snatchers only last week.
Regarding Sadiq Gentle’s death, authorities have not yet released an official announcement.
