The Kano State Police Command nabbed a prominent armed robbery suspect, Abba Aliyu, also known as Abba Fiya, after receiving a distress call about an armed robbery in the state’s Hausawa Quarters.
According to a news release released by the Command on Monday, the suspect was apprehended on December 21 by Anti-Daba Unit officers while reacting to an allegation of an armed robbery in the region.
“In line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police on prompt response to distress calls, operatives of the Anti-Daba Unit swiftly responded to a report of an armed robbery at Hausawa Quarters and arrested the suspect,” the Police said.
The suspect, a 26-year-old Dala Quarters resident, was detained on the orders of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori. He was arrested with a sharp knife in his possession.
According to police, the suspect admitted to being involved in multiple armed robberies and violent daba rivalry confrontations in Kano.
“The suspect confessed to conducting several armed robberies and rivalry daba fights in areas such as Gobirawa Gangare, Dala and Tudun Fulani Mayanka Quarters,” the statement said.
The Command further stated that discreet investigations showed the suspect’s suspected involvement in violent activities beyond Kano State.
“On discreet investigation, the suspect further confessed to a series of armed robberies resulting in deaths, causing injuries and robbing of properties in Kano, Rivers and Lagos States,” the Police added.
The police said the investigation is underway and that the suspect will be charged accordingly.
“Investigation is in progress, and the case will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation,” the statement noted.
The Commissioner of Police commended the officers involved in the arrest and urged the public to continue to support the police by giving timely and meaningful information.
“The Commissioner of Police appreciates the officers for the notable arrest made and urges members of the public to continue to cooperate with the Police by reporting any suspicious movement or activity,” the Command said.
Residents were also asked to report incidents using the Command’s emergency lines or the Nigeria Police Force “Rescue Me” app as part of efforts to improve security throughout the state.
