Kano: Why we created three second class emirates – Gov Yusuf

The three new Second Class Emirates, according to Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, were established to improve economic viability and strengthen ties between the populace and the government.

The new Second Class Emirates Council Bill, which Jibrin Falgore, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, presented to the governor on Tuesday, was signed into law.

He claimed that by enacting the bill into law, the Assembly has fulfilled yet another fundamental obligation.

“The action of the State Assembly is yet another testament of the government’s commitment to recognize the constitutional roles of local government and the Emirates Council and the role they play in developing the state.”

The governor urged the recently formed Emirate Councils to carry out their responsibilities in a way that complies with the law and the rules of the constitution.

“The Councils will enhance local government and traditional cultural viability and preserve their heritage, the passage was in response to the yearning of the people.

“I urge the newly established Emirates to work in harmony with Kano Emir, Muhammadu Sanusi II, for the betterment of the state,” the governor added.

He stated that the new emirs who will lead the new emirates would soon be announced by the government.

The Kano State Emirate Council, 2024 Act, according to State House of Assembly Speaker Jibrin Falgore, is intended to boost local economies and increase public engagement with the government.

Rano, Karaye, and Gaya are the recently formed Emirate Councils of the second class.
