Kebbi: Malami’s defection lacks political relevance – Gov Idris’ aide

The defection of former Justice Minister and Attorney-General of the Federation Abubakar Malami to the African Democratic Congress, ADC, has been deemed politically inconsequential by the Kebbi State Government.

Ahmed Idris, Governor Nasir Idris’ chief press secretary, stated in an interview that Malami’s departure from the All Progressives Congress (APC) had no impact on the power of the state’s ruling party.

“We are not concerned about his defection. In fact, we see no loss in his exit,” Idris said. “Malami never made any serious political impact in Kebbi and has even struggled to win his own polling unit in past elections.”

In addition, he questioned Malami’s coalition efforts’ structure and motivation, claiming that they were motivated more by private ambition than by the general welfare.

According to information ZINGTIE obtained, Malami joined the ADC as a member of a larger opposition coalition after formally departing the APC on July 3. Citing the APC’s inability to address insecurity, economic hardship, and poor administration, he said in a statement that the decision was reached following consultations and introspection.

He emphasized the need to “reclaim Nigeria from further decline,” adding that the action was motivated by a commitment to national recovery rather than resentment or desire.
