On Friday, President Bola Tinubu met with three senators from Kebbi State who are reportedly finalizing arrangements to defect to the ruling All Progressive Congress at the Presidential Villa.

The three senators—Senator Adamu Aliero, who represents Kebbi Central; Senator Yahaya Abubakar Abdullahi, who represents Kebbi North; and Senator Garba Maidoki, who represents Kebbi South—who are important members of the opposition party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), were taken to the president’s office, where they met behind closed doors with APC Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje.

Along with other party stakeholders, Atiku Bagudu, the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Mohammed Nasir Idris, the governor of Kebbi State, and Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, the governor of Sokoto State, attended the brief meeting.

Defections from the opposition PDP to the ruling All Progressive Congress have been rampant.

Sheriff Oborevwori, the governor of Delta State, recently shocked the country by defecting to the APC with other followers.

The president has refuted the growing fears that the nation is moving toward a one-party system.
