Nollywood actor Uzor Arukwe has expressed frustration with film producers who repeatedly cast him in “Odogwu” roles, insisting that he should not be limited to a particular character type.
Arukwe made this known during an interview on The Creativitea Podcast, where he explained that producers continued to offer him similar roles because they believed the characters would deliver good returns on their investments.
“All the producers in Nollywood now want to kill me with Odogwu character. You can’t put me in a box,” he said.
The actor encouraged producers to explore other characters for him, pointing out that the role that brought him widespread recognition had also been given to him because someone was willing to take a chance.
“The same way someone took a chance on that character, you can also create another character and give to me,” Arukwe said.
His remarks followed an earlier admission by his manager, Mautin Tairu, popularly known as Mr M, who said he was also growing tired of the actor’s repeated “igbotic” roles.
ZINGTIE reports that Tairu made the comment on X while responding to a fan, R. Ekpedeme, who had criticised Arukwe’s frequent shouting in such roles.
“Uzor needs to leave the igbotic roles for a while. I need a break from the shouting,” the fan wrote.
