Kebbi govt declares PDP dead following defection of Senator Adamu Aleiro, others

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been deemed politically irrelevant by the Kebbi State Government after three of its senators defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Yakubu Ahmed, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, said in a statement released on Tuesday that Governor Nasir Idris’s leadership and performance since taking office in 2023 are to blame for the mass defection of Senators Adamu Aliero, Garba Maidoki, and Yahaya Abdullahi, marking the state’s opposition’s ultimate collapse.

“The party has been on life support for months. The exit of Senators Adamu Aliero, Garba Maidoki, and Yahaya Abdullahi is the final nail in the coffin. These were the party’s strongest pillars. With their defection, the PDP has nothing left to stand on in Kebbi State,” the statement read in part.

According to ZINGTIE, the current wave of defections has caused internal fear among Kebbi’s remaining PDP stakeholders, some of whom have now openly acknowledged that the party’s structure has irreparably disintegrated.
