Ahead of the 2027 Kebbi State gubernatorial election, former Attorney General of the Federation and Justice Minister Abubakar Malami (SAN) is facing tremendous pressure to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

According to information obtained by the Daily Post, as part of continued attempts to reposition the PDP in the state, a group of PDP stakeholders paid Malami a visit at his home on Tuesday and encouraged him to think about joining their party.

The pressure on Malami follows the defection of three senior PDP senators: Senator Muhammad Adamu Aliero (Kebbi Central), Senator Yahaya Abdullahi (Kebbi North), and Senator Garba Musa Maidoki (Kebbi South), who switched allegiance to the APC.

At Tuesday’s National Assembly in Abuja, their defection was publicly declared.

Internal tensions within the APC have increased as a result of the defections, especially in the camp of Governor Nasir Idris, who is allegedly uneasy about Malami’s increasing political involvement.

One of the attendees, who talked to our reporter on condition of anonymity, called the several-hour-long, behind-closed-door discussion “strategic.”

Malami’s recent talks with political actors, youth groups, and stakeholders across the state have not gone ignored, sparking speculation about his next political move.

Malami is being considered for a potential governorship ticket, a PDP party insider told the Daily Post.

“We are reaching out to capable leaders who can help rebuild the state. Malami is someone we believe can change the game if he comes on board,” the source said.

This is not the first time that Malami has been connected to other platforms.

According to recent rumors, as part of its 2027 plan, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has also approached him with a straight ticket.

Insiders believe Malami is keeping his options open while keeping an eye on the changing dynamics inside the APC and throughout the state, despite the fact that he has not commented on the offers or stated any political ambition.
