Michael Akinropo Adesiyan, a deputy director at the National Assembly Commission, was abducted by gunmen from his home in Kubwa, Abuja, and has described how they murdered his wife in front of him.
According to ZINGTIE, on Monday night, January 26, 2025, Adesiyan, his wife, Esther, their son, and two other people were kidnapped by gunmen.
On January 27, the abductors killed his wife and left her body in a bush close to the Itagbajii hamlet in Niger state.
Adesiyan was one of 60 abducted individuals that were freed by Nigerian Army 1 Division forces and brought to Abuja by Minister of Defense Badaru Abubakar and National Security Advisor Nuhu Ribadu.
The victims—35 men and 25 women—were rescued on April 7 in a coordinated operation involving many security and intelligence agencies throughout Kaduna State and the Federal Capital Territory, according to Maj. Gen. Adamu Laka, Coordinator of the National Counter-Terrorism Center.
Shortly after the official welcoming, Adesiyan spoke out in favor of a non-combative strategy to curb banditry.
He claimed that the bandits, who were primarily between the ages of 17 and 21, were illiterate and victims of their circumstances.
“I was chained for 32 days. Most of them can’t even count up to a million. They don’t know what they’re doing. Instead of k!lling them, the government should arrest, educate, and rehabilitate them. Some of them want to learn trades. They can still be useful,” he said.
Michael described how he witnessed his wife being k!lled.
“When they k!ll someone in front of you, you’ll give them anything they want. They k!lled my wife before me. In that moment, if they asked for my head, I would have given it.”
At approximately 11.30 p.m. on Sunday, January 26, the deceased, her husband, Mr. Akinropo Adesiyan, their son, Ifeoluwa, and a family member, Dr. Rauf Adekunle Adeniji, were kidnapped from their residence together with a neighbor who worked at a nearby chicken farm.
